This TCI special presentation documents the Dallas City Council inauguration ceremony held on June 2, 1997. Many notable political figures appear, including Mayor Ronald Kirk. Serving from 1995 to 2002, Kirk was the first Black mayor of Dallas as well as the first Black Texas Secretary of State. The ceremony also marked the departure of council members Craig McDaniel—the first openly LGBTQ member of Dallas City Council—and Chris Luna.
