In this 1990 episode of Region 56 Weekly, host Leslie Roberts sits down with Jim Morphew of the US Forest Service and biologist Mike Krueger of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to talk about a interagency program to bring the wild turkey back to East Texas. Morphew and Krueger explain the myriad reasons to restore wild turkeys to the region and how the state and federal agencies worked together to purchase and release birds. Region 56 Weekly was a public access television program produced by KTEK-TV in Tyler, Texas.

The US Forest Service is part of the US Department of Agriculture. The agency manages approximately 650,000 acres of public lands in Texas, including Davy Crockett National Forest, Sabine National Forest, Angelina National Forest, and Sam Houston National Forest as well as the Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands. The Texas offices for the US Forest Service are located in Lufkin.
