The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, was a military conflict between communist and anti-communist forces that occured from November 1, 1955, to April 30, 1975. The United States and other anti-communist allies supported South Vietnam, while the Soviet Union and China assisted North Vietnam.
