TAMI at the Astrodome Memories Scanning Event

The Houston Astrodome. The 8th Wonder of the World. Many archives and individuals hold materials related to the Astrodome, and in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the opening game, the Astrodome Memories Project is seeking to discover and share these memories with you.

In addition to the materials and memories already available on the project website at www.astrodomememories.org, the project partners are hosting a scanning event on August 8th where the public can bring in their Astrodome-related materials including photographs, posters, game programs, souveneirs, and other memorabilia. Oral histories will be recorded, and TAMI will be present to collect Astrodome films and videos for free digitization.

The project provides access to a broad collection of Astrodome-related materials, including items contributed by the public as well as from major archives in the Houston area and the state.  The collection includes oral histories, photographs, blueprints, and audio-video materials related to the construction of the Astrodome, as well as pamphlets, scrapbook, and memorabilia documenting the use of the Astrodome for the last fifty years.

This project has been made possible in part by support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services provided by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
