Archives in ATXion: The Texas Picture Show
In celebration of Texas Archives Month, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission is partnering with the Texas Archive of the Moving Image to host a FREE, after-hours archival film screening on the east lawn of the Texas State Capitol Building on Thursday, October, 29 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Archives in ATXion: The Texas Picture Show will invite visitors to catch a rare glimpse of vintage home movies, newsreels, ad reels, broadcasts, and industrial and tourism films whose flickering images showcase part of what it means to be a Texan. From cattle drives to drive-in movies, family BBQs to political parades, the moving memories contained in the millions of feet of film and video from the holdings of archives, libraries, and special collections will take center stage under the stars.
Movie goers are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets to complete the experience. In keeping with this celebration of the unique culture of our state, prior to the screening, live musical entertainment will be provided by Grammy Award winning Texas Swing artist Jason Roberts (Asleep at the Wheel) and his band with the screening itself kicking off after sundown at 7:30 PM.
This family-friendly screening will be an excellent opportunity for the Archival Community of central Texas to connect our shared missions of education, preservation and conservation with our friends and neighbors in the Austin area.
