Broadcast on KFDM-TV in Beaumont, this footage features a series of news segments about the South Texas State Fair. The news station reported live from a set at the Harvest Club during the week of the fair, with reporter Tom Wright taping regular segments highlighting what visitors might see and enjoy. In his final segment, Wright honors anchor Cecile Brandt upon her retirement. At KFDM from 1975 to 1995, Burandt was the first female anchor on Beaumont television. Begun in 1907 as the Beaumont Fair, the South Texas State Fair is an annual regional state fair featuring a livestock show, commercial exhibition, and carnival Midway. Boasting an attendance of more than 500,000 people, the event is only second in statewide popularity to the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Joining the station in 1985, Wright has worked for KFDM for more than 30 years. He currently serves as a news managing editor.
