This home video, mostly recorded in Arlington, Texas, in the early 1990s, documents the birthdays, holidays, and everyday activities of Karen Cody, her daughter Marilyse, and other family and friends. First, in 1991, the extended family gathers for a backyard reunion. The kids perform a skit to acknowledge recent birthdays and other milestones. Jumping forward to 1993, Karen and Marilyse celebrate Easter with friends. They crack Easter eggs filled with glitter and the moms attempt to teach their children to share a tricycle. Back home in Arlington, Marilyse chases a cat and plays with a doll. Dad takes the camera for son Ben’s high school graduation, conversing with the family in both English and his native Quebec French. The family then makes an inspection of their house, documenting unauthorized changes and damage left by a tenant. Marilyse dresses like a jack-o-lantern for Halloween, attends a birthday party with beloved purple dinosaur Barney, goes ice skating in the driveway, and opens Christmas presents. In 1994, Marilyse celebrates her 3rd birthday with bubbles in the backyard, Barney piñatas, cake, and presents. She then dresses like a bird for a school recital. In the summer, Karen and her daughter join aunt Jennifer at the beach in Galveston and throw a rainy Bastille Day party at their home. Halloween comes around again and Karen helps Marilyse practice her Spanish. The video ends with Marilyse’s school holiday party, where the kids celebrate with songs, skits, and crafts.
