Juárez-Lincoln was a Chicano institution of higher learning founded in in 1971. It moved from offices at St. Edward’s University in Austin to its own campus on East 1st Street in 1975. The program shut down four years later after Antioch University ended its affiliate support. When real estate developers subsequently announced plans to demolish the building, neighborhood groups sued. They hoped to turn the space into a neighborhood center. Residents lost the court battle, however, and the building was demolished in 1983.
