In this 1995 episode of World of Wonder, host Michael Dorn surveys the bat colonies of Central and East Texas. Biologist Peggy Horner of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department explains why Mexican free-tailed bats migrate to the state each year as well as why native bat species are in danger. Later, she looks for a roost of big-eared bats in Angelina National Forest. World of Wonder was a cable television program that aired on the Discovery Channel.

The US Forest Service is part of the US Department of Agriculture. The agency manages approximately 650,000 acres of public lands in Texas, including Davy Crockett National Forest, Sabine National Forest, Angelina National Forest, and Sam Houston National Forest as well as the Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands. The Texas offices for the US Forest Service are located in Lufkin.
