    Hope, 08/07/68: An unidentified woman addresses the Houston City Council
    Captain Harry Caldwell, director of the Community Relations Division at the Houston Police Department, comments on a petition. The department formed the Community Relations Division following a violent confrontation between police officers and Texas Southern University students in May 1967.

    New Park, 08/07/68: Construction begins on a new park in Houston's Fourth Ward
    McCarthy, 08/09/68: Crowds gather in Hermann Park for a campaign rally for Senator Eugene McCarthy of Minnesota. McCarthy was one of several candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for president during the 1968 election. During his one-day visit to Houston, he also held a news conference and attended a fundraising reception.

    Sitting next to McCarthy are (left to right) Senator Ralph Yarborough and Congressman Robert Eckhardt. Eckhardt served Texas in the United States House of Representatives from 1967 to 1981. He is also a co-founder of the Texas Observer magazine.
