This home movie segment captures the Cochran family on a trip through West Texas in 1960. First, they tour Alamo Village, a movie set on the ranch of James T. "Happy" Shahan in Brackettville. Featuring a three-quarter-scale replica of the Alamo compound, the Village was built for John Wayne's The Alamo (1960). Turned into a tourist attraction after production wrapped, the site was subsequently used in over 100 other westerns. Next, the Cochrans visit Big Bend National Park in Brewster County, taking hikes through the Chihuahan Desert and relaxing by the banks of the Rio Grande.
