This 2002 footage captures a Veterans Day program recognizing Medal of Honor recipient and Port Arthur native, Lucian Adams. Following an introduction by his daughter, Grace Fawcett, Adams takes the stage and receives a standing ovation from the audience. His harrowing story is then recounted in a video interview played at the ceremony. Adams was awarded the Medal of Honor on March 29, 1945, for his service with the 30th Infantry, 3rd Infantry, Division, in France during World War II. On October 28, 1944, Adams took out three machine gun emplacements near the city of St. Die, allowing the supply lines to reopen for his battalion and contributing to a retreat by the Germans. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Adams worked for 40 years as a Veterans Administration benefits counselor in San Antonio. He passed away in 2003 at the age of 80.
