This 1970s home movie captures the scene at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in Udon Thani, Thailand. The film features footage of various US Air Force fighter jets, including the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom, the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, and the North American T-28th Trojan. Both the 13th Fighter Squadron, known as the “Panther Pack,” and the 421st Fighter Squadron, known as the “Black Widows,” were stationed at the base. Aside from training and missions, the pilots find ways to keep themselves entertained. Members of the 13th squadron walk their panther mascot, Eldridge, around the base, while 421st fighters haze their comrades who are concluding a tour. This footage occurs near the conclusion of open hostilities between the Untied States and North Vietnam in the winter of 1973. Following the end the Vietnam War, F-4 squadrons, such as the 421st, returned to their home base. Others, such as the 13th, were inactivated. Today, Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base is the primary airport in Udon Thani Province.
