Mack McKinney taught sailing classes at Corpus Christi State University (now known as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi) during the summer of 1979. He participated in the competition with his son, David, under sail no. 34644.
In the summer of 1979, the Hobie Fleet 99 hosted the 2nd Annual Olympic Regatta off of North Beach in Corpus Christi. (Hobie Cats are a kind of small sailing catamaran.) This home movie, shot by Bea McKinney, captures the events of the day, from the actions of spectators to the announcement of winners. McKinney taught filmmaking classes at King High School in Corpus Christi. She also hosted the Texas Student Film Festivals.
