Produced by Houston's KPRC-TV in the early summer of 1981, this broadcast features whitewater guide and environmental guru Don Greene of Whitewater Experience in Houston and KPRC field producer Alex Lieban discussing whitewater rafting on the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country. The pair had talked for two years about making a series focused on the burgeoning popularity of canoeing and kayaking on the river with an emphasis on safety and respect for the water. After several related deaths one Memorial Day weekend, Greene and Lieban decided to follow through on their plans. KPRC news reporter Dan O'Rourke and photographer Charles Stacey signed onto the project, creating a three-part series (here edited into one segment) that aired shortly thereafter.
