    4A State Championship game between Odessa (wearing red jerseys) and Houston's Lamar High School on December 19, 1953, at Rice Stadium in Houston. The Lamar Texans defeated the Odessa Bronchos 33-7, winning the state championship and finishing the season with an 11-0-2 record. 
    Lamar's Walter Fondren went on to play at the University of Texas at Austin from 1955 to 1957 as Head Coach Darrell K Royal's first quarterback. Lamar Head Coach Bob Schultze also joined the Longhorns as part of Royal's coaching staff. 
    The following season, the Odessa Bronchos (wearing white jerseys) host the Pampa Harvesters. Odessa lost 28-14.
