Produced by Media Communications in Austin for the Highland Lakes Tourist Association in conjunction with the Austin Chamber of Commerce, this film presents a tour of the lakes from the perspective of a hot-air balloon and from a camper. Created as part of the tourist development effort of the Tourism Department, copies of the film were sent out across the country and shown between television programs as far away as Montana and Virginia, as well as being run locally to cultivate tourism within the metro-Austin area.
As described by marketing materials included with the film:
The giant balloon is gradually filled with hot air…two men climb aboard…and suddenly they're off…soaring above a crystal blue lake…then floating across the rugged hills…getting a special look at a special place. The Highland Lakes of Central Texas.
It's all part of an exciting new film adventure…a balloon journey…in the new 26-minute color sound film from the Highland Lakes Tourist Association.
Along with the balloonist you get to see this beautiful country as no one has ever seen it before. A low-level, slow-motion view of seven lakes…Lake Buchanan…Inks Lake…Lake Marble Falls…Lake Lyndon B. Johnson…Lake Travis…Lake Austin…Town Lake…all of the Highland Lakes as they intertwine for 125 miles along the channel of the once-wild Colorado River of Texas.
And when the balloon rescue team takes time out from the chase you get to see famous Longhorn Cavern, the LBJ Ranch and Boyhood Home and the LBJ Library in Austin. And you get to go along when they take a leisurely sail boat ride on Lake Travis.
There's much more, of course, in this beautiful motion picture but you must see it to believe it.
It's an unforgettable adventure in an unforgettable land.
