This footage captures scenes of the composing room and printing press in action at the Houston Post. Men set type and run machinery to print the newspaper on huge rolls of newsprint. Also included are aerial views of Goose Creek Oil Field, Baytown Refinery, and Baytown, Texas. Goose Creek Oil Field is the site of the first offshore oil wells in Texas, and was a major field during the Texas Oil Boom. The city of Baytown was built around the field, and Houston-based Humble Oil Company (now Exxon U.S.A.) recognized the potential for the field to be a long-term producer, and built a pipeline from the field to the Houston Ship Channel, as well as the Baytown Refinery. Construction of the refinery was completed in 1921, likely around the time this footage was filmed. Baytown Refinery is still active and stands as the largest oil refinery in the United States today.
