This 1931 newsreel footage shows 'The Ambulance of the Air,' as emergency pilots from Kelly Field rescue victims of a bomber crash. Between the world wars, Kelly Field, located in San Antonio, housed the military's Advanced Flying School, and most Army aviators graduated from this school, including Charles Lindbergh. In an effort to prove the importance of the airplane in American society, the school regularly featured air shows for the public of these daring young pilots. In 1995, Kelly Air Force Base was closed and much of its assets realigned to Lackland Air Force Base, also in San Antonio.
